Tefillin Gassot Prudot (“thick separated phylacteries”) are made out of a thick hide, just like standard Tefillin Gassot, but the casements of the Shel Rosh are fully separated. The four casements on the Shel Rosh of most tefillin gassot are separated most of the way down, with glue toward the bottom to help form and maintain the cube shape. This is known as "rov prudot." Prudot are made without glue. They look the same on the outside, but if you were to insert a micro-thin blade between the housings, it would pass all the way down to the base, as required according to some opinions.
