Impala has been introduced as a tallit bag material in recently years and quickly became fairly widespread. It’s a very sturdy material made by processing the hide of the impala, a type of gazelle found in Africa. Impala tallit bags appear similar to velvet, with attractive texturing and a hefty leathery feel.
Suede, leather and faux leather tallit bags have also become popular. Prices can vary considerably, based on the quality of the material and the level of craftsmanship. Some leather and faux leather tallit bags include a shoulder strap.
Leather vs. PU Leather
Polyurethane leather, or PU leather, is a type of artificial leather composed of thermoplastic polymer often used in the manufacture of furniture and shoes. Since it is entirely artificial PU leather is vegan. Certain types of PU leather, known as bicast leather, are comprised of genuine leather (using the fibrous part of cowhide leftover from making genuine leather) covered with a polyurethane coating.
