Select one of the traditional tallit categories above ⇈
Our traditional wool tallit selection is meant to provide every tallit buyer with just the right wool tallit to drape over his shoulders. Note that most of the prices shown are for a size 60. If you choose a smaller size, the price displayed will decrease.
When buying a wool tallit usually it makes sense to first choose the striping color that's best for you: black, white or blue. That's why we've divided our traditional tallit selection into three categories to help you narrow down your selection easily (in additional to our nonslip, Chassidic and Yemenite tallit selections).
Even within the "traditional tallit" rubric, some designs have a more modern look, while others are very conservative. Many classic wool tallits have a white atara (neckband) with a very subtle diamond and leaf design. Others may have the Tzitzit Blessing embroidered on the atara and some of our blue-striped designs have striping on the atara.
Wool tallit sizing
Sizing for traditional wool tallits is standardized, with very slight variations from one company to the next. The most common sizes are 55 (S), 60 (M) and 70 (L). Some people opt to go down a size if they don't want so much fabric to keep bunched up on their shoulders and if they prefer a more manageable length in back. For detailed information, please refer to our Tallit Size Wizard.
Why are tallits traditionally made of wool?
Wool tallits have been almost universally preferred over cotton, silk and synthetic materials for centuries (or perhaps millenia). According to halacha wool is clearly the preferred material. It looks much nicer than the inexpensive synthetic type ("Acrylan"), is very durable, hangs nicely and breathes well. Some people assume a wool tallit feels hot, but keep in mind that a lightweight or medium weight tallit worn loosely will not heat you up more than silk or cotton. Also, wool tallits are rarely itchy. For those whose skin is highly sensitive, we can add a cotton lining.
Which tzitzit?
We provide a very wide range of tzitzit and tzitzit tying options for every tallit for sale on our webstore. In fact, for many customers the tzitzit options are a bit confusing, which is why we created our Tzitzit Wizard and Tzitzit FAQ.
