Tzitzit for IDF Combat Soldiers
Recently Res. Col. Rabbi Yedidya Alter of the IDF's Central Command brought to our attention the acute shortage of olive green tzitzit garments for combat soldiers.
They are made of a unique fabric designed to wick moisture away from the skin and to last under difficult field conditions.
Many combat soldiers refer to the olive green tzitzit as השכפ"ץ האמיתי ("the real bullet-proof vest"). Colonel Alter says not only soldiers from religious homes are asking to wear them. "When bullets are flying at you, there's no such thing as a non-religious soldier," he told me.
The IDF Rabbinate is churning out supplies as fast as it can, but supplies were rapidly depleted, following the major call-up of reserve combat soldiers for Operation Protective Edge.
