Turnaround time

Many of our customers are accustomed to online sellers that can get orders to them within two or three days. We don't have that ability, especially since the majority of our orders essentially require customization, i.e. tzitzit tying. Even our customers who appreciate that we need more time don't always take in the time difference and weekend schedule into account.

We note on our Shipping Info pages that we are able to get most orders sent within 3-5 business days. That's the time we normally need to tie on tzitzit, prepare for shipping and wait for pickup. Believe it or not, an order ostensibly placed on a Thursday afternoon might not ship until Sunday a week and a half later, and that would still be within five business days!

How could that be? Well, first of all, let's take the time difference into account. Most of our orders come in while we're asleep. If you're in Chicago and you place an order at 5:00 pm Thursday, that's 1:00 am on Friday here. So the first time we look at the order is going to be around 9:00 am on Sunday.

If there’s no tying to do, we can probably have the shipping label ready by Monday, i.e. one business day later. In this case, the customer sees that the order date was Thursday and shipping date was Monday; he might not realize that that was just one business day processing time.

Let’s say we need a full five business days to tie tzitzit and prepare the order for shipping. Again, if we first saw the order on Sunday, five business days is next Sunday. Seeing is believing, so here’s an illustration of how it looks from our standpoint:

All of the above is the order processing time, whereas shipping time is another thing. When you placed the order, you probably saw one option for shipping time within two weeks and another for shipping within 3-5 business days. Note that “shipping time” is just that, the time it takes to ship it after we’ve finished working on it.

So if you paid more for the faster option, that still is likely to be a total of 6-10 business days (fulfillment time + shipping time).
